Bixby has grown fast without losing what drew people here in the first place. The city still calls itself the Garden Spot of Oklahoma, a nod to the farmland along the Arkansas River that cuts the town into north and south halves. Weekends fill Washington Irving Memorial Park and Arboretum, where the amphitheater copies Washington Irving’s Sunnyside home. Families drive out to Lake Bixhoma for the afternoon, and downtown the Bixby Historical Society keeps up Plummer’s Service Station, restored and dating to 1921.
What Bixby has fewer of is provider-led aesthetics practices, which is why plenty of clients here drive north instead. We sit at 61st and Sheridan in south Tulsa, close enough to fit into a lunch hour or the narrow window between school pickup and dinner.
From central Bixby, head straight north on Memorial Drive. It runs from Bixby into south Tulsa and meets East 61st Street a few blocks west of our door. If you live south of the Arkansas River, cross at the Memorial bridge and keep going north. Allow roughly 15 to 20 minutes in ordinary traffic, and a little more—around 20 to 30 minutes—between 4:30 and 6:00 in the evening.
